The Music Library collections include:
- More than 25,000 CDs
- More than 30,000 LPs (many not listed in the Library Catalogue; please ask us for assistance!)
- 47,000 volumes of printed music
- More than 27,000 books about music
- 420 printed journal titles. Many of these titles are also available in full text online, along with numerous additional titles that we provide only online.
- About 600 videos, including VHS tapes, laser discs, and DVDs
Access to Collections:
- Most printed materials are available in open stacks and may be studied, or checked out on the main floor, any time during Rutherford Library hours.
- Sound recordings, videos, and course reserves are in closed stacks and must be requested at the Music Library Service Desk during Music Library hours.
- Sound and video recordings are normally available for use only in the Library. Exceptions are made for faculty members and other teaching staff using the materials for teaching or research, for graduate students in music, and for students making class presentations.
- Some materials are located at the Book and Record Depository (BARD), and may be requested using the Request/Hold This Item link in the catalogue record. See the Online Book Requests/Holds page for more information about requesting materials from BARD, borrowing print materials from other NEOS Libraries, or requesting items that are currently checked out to another borrower.
Listening Facilities:
- 30 individual listening stations with various playback options.
- Headphones are provided, or you may bring your own.
- Separate room provided for group listening, viewing, and study, subject to availability. Contact us for more information on booking this room in advance.
Computing Facilities:
- Six public computers are available in the open study area near the Music Library desk.
- No login is required to access the University of Alberta Libraries Website or the Library Catalogue.
- A Campus Computing ID (CCID) is required for Internet access, or to use the Libraries' licensed electronic resources such as online journals, databases, and streaming audio collections.
- Visitors to the Libraries may apply for a Temporary Campus Computing ID.
