On Tuesday, September 21, 2010, Grand Opening ceremonies commemorated the opening of Augustana's new library and forum. Mary-Jo Romaniuk, Acting Head Librarian of the University of Alberta Libraries, spoke at the event, emphasizing:
"The new Augustana Library is an inclusive and transformative learning space offering the Augustana faculty, staff, and students and Camrose community access to not only a wealth of electronic resources, but to over 130,000 items in the print collection housed at Augustana. The new library is also a gateway to access the over ten million items available in the University of Alberta Libraries’ collections.”

The new Augustana library offers new and expanded services, including a self-check-out circulation machine, a 70+ station information commons, a silent study room, a library classroom, and several group work rooms. Additional enhanced services are being rolled on an ongoing basis.
Members of the wider community are welcome to visit the library at any time. Community members who are not current Augustana students or staff can borrow library materials by signing up for an external borrower card.
The new library houses Augustana’s entire library collection, including approximately 130,000 individual titles. In addition to being a wireless hotspot, it provides access to approximately 100 computer workstations, a variety of student workspaces, and Writing Centre consultation rooms. The library is fully wheelchair-accessible. It boasts large windows and wonderful ravine views.
Ground broke for the new library in April 2007, and the project has succeeded thanks to the contributions of partners including the University of Alberta and the Province of Alberta, as well as support from the City of Camrose and the staff of the University of Alberta and Augustana libraries, facilities and technology departments.
This is a new facility that gives weight to the old saying: “A university is just a group of buildings gathered around a library." Stop by to see us, if you haven't yet!
