The Alberta Library (TAL) Bookcard

The Alberta Library (TAL) is a province-wide multi-type library consortium linking all types of Alberta libraries and information providers in order to provide all Albertans with timely access to information. The Alberta Library is based upon principles of barrier-free access to member resources and agreement that reciprocal access for collections will be enabled through the consortium. The TAL/University of Alberta BookCard enables access to resources of the University of Alberta Libraries for users from other member libraries of The Alberta Library. This initiative is a significant step toward The Alberta Library's goal of implementing a province-wide library card.

General Guidelines:

  • The BookCard may be used to borrow books only.
  • The card may be used to borrow a maximum of ten books for a two week loan period. Loans may be renewed.
  • Renewed materials may be recalled and loan periods shortened if requested by another patron.
  • The BookCard will be available only to those libraries that are members of TAL or members of members, as in the case of regional library systems.

To obtain a TAL bookcard, University of Alberta faculty, staff and students should contact any University of Alberta service desk.

For all others, please contact your home library.  Once you have received your TAL bookcard, please present it, along with valid photo ID with a permanent address such as a driver's license, to any University of Alberta service desk to activate your borrowing privileges.
