Alter-Aesthetics: The Book Transformed
July - September, 2009
By their very nature, artist's books challenge our notions of what a book should look like. They resist definition because they are experimental, expressive mediums employing all variety of physical and graphic properties to communicate content and purpose.
The Bruce Peel Special Collections Library is pleased to share a selection of works from the preeminent collection of artist's books in Canada. This exhibition offers the viewer the chance to consider how the artistic identity of the book has been expanded through new standards of production, aesthetic contemplation and distribution.
