U of A Libraries is a member of the Open Content Alliance (OCA). The Open Content Alliance describes itself as: "a collaborative effort of a group of cultural, technology, nonprofit, and governmental organizations from around the world that helps build a permanent archive of multilingual digitized text and multimedia material. An archive of contributed material is available on the Internet Archive website and through Yahoo! and other search engines and sites. The OCA encourages access to and reuse of collections in the archive, while respecting the content owners and contributors. Contributors to the OCA have agreed to the principles set forth in the Call for Participation."
U of A has partnered with several other institutions, including Canadian Libraries such as those at the University of Toronto, to digitize millions of pages of published material. Digitized materials are hosted on the Internet Archive website and at the University of Alberta, as accessible through the University of Alberta catalogue.
