Thurston Lacalli Marine Taxonomy Collection
University of Alberta Library
Dates: 1865 – 1997; predominant 1950’s – 1980’s
Extent: Approximately 40 bound volumes.
UA Cameron Flr2 SciTech CALL NUMBER: QL 364.15 T58.
The collection was donated by Thurston Lacalli, 1998-9.
Jonathan H. Davidson, June 1999
Born in Seattle, Washington, Thurston Lacalli received his Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the University of British Columbia in 1973. His scientific point of view was strongly influenced by Scandinavian marine science. Since 1977, Lacalli has been a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Saskatchewan.
The collection consists primarily of journal offprints and photocopied articles bound into volumes according to subject matter. This material was collected as part of Professor Lacalli’s personal library on marine invertebrate reproduction and development.
Lacalli organized the collection himself and when processed it was retained in the order he placed it in. Many titles cited in this listing have been paraphrased or translated from the titles on the documents themselves. One volume, ECHINODERM DEVELOPMENT v. III, has been retained by Professor Lacalli and will be donated at a later date.
