University of AlbertaThe Bruce P. Dancik Collection of Angling Books
Collection Brochure (pdf)
The Bruce P. Dancik Collection of Angling Books consists
of more than 3,000 volumes, and an equal number of ephemeral publications. Many are titles of extreme rarity, often illustrated with woodcuts, copper or steel engravings, chromolithographs, and photoengravings. Beyond documenting the history and practice of angling, the Dancik Collection is a notable research resource for freshwater biologists, limnologists, and ichthyologists, and for the study of ecology and wildlife resource management.
By supporting The Bruce P. Dancik Collection of Angling Books at the Bruce Peel Special Collections Library, you will help to preserve these important materials, increase access for students, staff, and researchers through digitization and exhibitions, and bring in additional resources to enhance this rich collection. Dr Dancik has served the University of Alberta and the scientific community well during his 38 years as a Professor, Chair, Associate Vice-President, and Director of the Devonian Botanic Garden. His sense of duty and responsibility for the stewardship of our resources has benefited many beyond the University and scientific community. He continues to be active professionally in forestry, science, and scientific editing and publishing.
He has received many awards for his dedication to the advancement of science and protection of the environment. His passion for the environment, natural ecosystems, and all things connected set the stage for his interest in the documentation of a sport he loves and, indeed, in collecting the literature of angling.
