Evaluating the Evidence
Once you have found one or two good studies that address your PICO question, you need to evaluate the strength of the evidence presented. Not all published research is equally valid and applicable. You will judge the quality and relevance of the evidence by asking
- Are the results of the study valid?
- What are the results?
- Can the results be applied to my patient?
The following resources can help you work through these three questions:
- Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Critical Appraisal Worksheets.
- The worksheets under the "Domains" tab of the Evidence Based Medicine Tool Kit.
